Makeup tips for busy moms

A look from a mom who is trying to get the whole week off her face, as well as all the other things she has to do. If I had a dime for everytime I hear “I want to get a pedi, but I don’t have time”, I’d be set!

The struggle is real and so is the solution! We have all those beautiful kids to look after and we have to do it all without spending too much time. We all want to look great, but we don’t always have the time to do what it takes to really look great. The good news is we are not alone in our dilemma and many products out there do exist to help!

Here are some tips that will allow you to look like a million bucks, and we mean that literally!

Do:

1- Use products that work!

Products that contain retinol or vitamin A, for example, should be your first go to products.

Retinol helps with the production of collagen, which is the key to youthful-looking skin.

Vitamin A also works to help with skin tightening, as well as helping to boost the skin’s natural defences against sun damage.

2- Don’t overdo it

Try and do your make-up in two or three layers, with one or two eye make-up products. This way you won’t need to go back to change it if you start to look tired!

3- Don’t forget to set your make-up

To avoid your make-up smudging, use a setting powder.

This will help your makeup to last longer, and can help to minimise any discolouration around your eyes.

4- Keep up with your skin care

Using an appropriate skincare routine is important to ensure your skin looks healthy, glowing and radiant!

A moisturiser or SPF is a must, as well as a great cleanser.

A good face mask is an effective and relaxing way to help treat dry or stressed skin.

If your skin looks dull and tired, consider using a retinol or vitamin A-based product, which helps with skin tightening and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Try to limit your makeup routine to three or four products, with a setting powder and/or a good moisturiser. You shouldn’t need to change more than three times a day.

If you are using a setting powder, make sure you put it on a clean, dry, cotton pad. Then gently pat it over your face to set your makeup and avoid your powder getting in your eyes.

If you are using a makeup primer, then put it on first to absorb any excess oils.

Do NOT put any moisturiser or face masks on top of makeup primer.

5- Don’t forget the eyes!

Eyeshadow is a great way to give yourself an instant make-over.

You can use powder shadow or liquid.

The best colours to use are cool tones, which are more flattering for everyone.

6- Use concealer wisely

Concealer can be used to conceal dark areas of skin, but if you are using it in a hurry, you should only use it under the eyes.

It can also be used under eyes, nose, and chin, but is not suitable for the cheeks.

Be careful to apply your concealer sparingly. You do not want to look too heavy-handed.

7- Stay calm

There will be plenty of people trying to rush you at the shops, and it is a good idea to have some shopping time to yourself.

Don’t feel pressured or rushed to buy products and spend hours in the mirror.

You are in a different frame of mind when you are in a public place, and are not trying to impress anyone but yourself!

8- Use a good brush

If you don’t own a good brush, you really should invest in one.

A quality brush will last you for a long time, so it is worth saving up to buy a new one.

The most important factor when choosing a brush is the shape of the brush.

You want to be able to sweep all of your make-up off easily, with just one swipe of the brush.

It’s also a good idea to choose a brush which will be comfortable when you are wearing your make-up, and that is best achieved with a soft-bristled brush.

9- Use a good compact

A good compact can be the difference between having a good make-up, or having a great make-up.

Look for a compact that has good, clean lines and that has good grip.

You also want to choose a compact that is easy to use.

10- Choose the right foundation

If you are having a difficult time finding a foundation that matches your skin tone, and you are looking for a foundation that won’t look like a mask, then try using foundation that has a lighter shade of your skin tone, such as a tinted moisturiser.

If you are looking for a foundation that can give a flawless finish, you might want to look for a heavier coverage foundation.

A heavy foundation is great for covering up imperfections, but it also hides the natural skin tone.

11- Don’t forget the lips

If you have a little trouble with your lips, you can use lipstick that will create the illusion of fullness or plump your lips.

Try looking for lipstick that has a glossy finish and that has a touch of blusher.

You can also try using lipgloss, as lipgloss gives a natural look.
